Uppuveli: Trincomalee’s Easy Beach

Uppuveli is the nearest beach to Trincomalee town, a broad stretch of sand backed by guesthouses and small hotels. It is calmer and more low-key than the busier resorts, and a good base for the area.
The beach
The wide beach is good for swimming and long walks, with east-coast sunrises over the water. It stays quieter than Nilaveli further north.
Diving and snorkelling
Dive shops run trips to reefs and, in season, to Pigeon Island. Whale and dolphin watching is also possible from Trincomalee.

The clifftop Koneswaram temple, Fort Frederick and the natural harbour of Trincomalee are minutes away.
