Sera Ella: A Twin Fall Deep in the Knuckles
Sera Ella is a striking waterfall on the way toward Meemure, in the Knuckles foothills of the Matale district. It drops in a broad curtain framed by thick jungle, and a short path leads down from the road to viewpoints near the base. The setting feels remote and lush.
Reaching the falls
A steep set of steps and a short trail lead down from the roadside to the falls. The descent is manageable but can be slippery when wet, so sturdy shoes are worth having.
Safety near the water
Pools below waterfalls in Sri Lanka can hide strong currents and sudden depth. Admire from safe ledges, avoid climbing on wet rock, and take local advice before entering any pool.
Combine your trip
Sera Ella works well as a stop on the winding drive to Meemure village. Roads in this area are narrow and rough in places, so plan for slow, careful driving.
