Riverston sits on the western edge of the Knuckles range, reached by a scenic mountain road from Matale through Rattota. The main draw is a viewpoint sometimes called the mini world's end, where the land drops sharply and the wind rarely stops. On a clear day the outlook stretches far across the lowlands.

The walk

From the roadside it is a fairly gentle stroll to the main viewpoint, suitable for most fitness levels. The grassy ridge can be exposed and gusty, so a light jacket helps even when the valleys below look warm.

When to go

Mornings tend to be clearest, with mist and cloud building through the day. Views come and go quickly here, so patience is rewarded and a fully socked in ridge can clear in minutes.

Nearby

The same road passes Pitawala Pathana, a small montane grassland, so the two pair well in one trip. Roads are winding and narrow in places, so allow extra driving time from Matale.
