Ravana Falls: Ella’s Roadside Cascade
Ravana Falls is a broad, multi-tiered cascade a short ride from Ella town, tied by legend to the Ramayana king Ravana. Because it is right by the road, it is one of the easiest big waterfalls to visit.
The falls
The water fans out over the rock in several strands and is at its most dramatic during and just after the rains. There are small pools at the base, though currents can be strong, so take care.
Ravana Cave
Above the falls, a steep climb leads to Ravana Cave, linked in legend to the story of Sita’s captivity.
Good to know
It gets busy with tour stops in the middle of the day; early morning is quieter. Watch for monkeys and slippery rocks.
Nearby
It combines easily with Ella’s other sights: the Nine Arches Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak and the Ella Rock walk.
