Pasikuda: The Shallow Calm-Water Bay
By Days of Iru and Opa
Pasikuda, on the east coast north of Batticaloa, is known for one of the longest shallow-water stretches in the country. Its calm, warm bay and resort strip make it an easy family beach.
The bay
The water stays shallow far out, so you can wade a long distance and it is gentle for swimming. It is a contrast to the surf beaches of the south.
Season
The east coast is at its best from around May to September, when the seas are calm and clear. Neighbouring Kalkudah beach is quieter and less developed.
Nearby
Batticaloa’s lagoon and Dutch fort are a short drive south, and Trincomalee’s beaches lie to the north.
