One Day in Kandy: What You Need to See

If you only have a day in Kandy, you can still hit the essentials without rushing. The old town is compact, and most of the highlights are within a short ride of the lake.
A rough plan
Start early at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic during a morning puja, then walk the lake. In the afternoon head up to Bahirawakanda for the big Buddha and the view, and finish with a Kandyan dance show in the evening.
Good to know
The train from Colombo takes about three hours and is the nicest way in. Dress modestly for the temple and carry water, since the viewpoints involve short, steep climbs.
