Nuwara Eliya: Everything to Know Before You Visit
By Days of Iru and Opa
Nuwara Eliya sits high in the central hills, so it stays cool and green all year, and locals call it Little England for its old bungalows and gardens. It is the base for tea estates, waterfalls, and some of the best viewpoints on the island.
What to expect
Days are mild and mornings can be cold, so pack a layer even though you are near the equator. Around town you have Gregory Lake, Victoria Park, and easy access to tea factories where you can see how Ceylon tea is made.
Good to know
The train ride up from Kandy or Ella through the tea is one of the highlights in itself. The area gets busy and chilly during the April season, so book ahead if you visit then.
