Nelligala International Buddhist Centre Near Kandy

Nelligala sits on a hilltop outside Kandy, and its white stupas and shrines are set against a sweeping view of the surrounding hills. It is newer and less crowded than the famous temples, and the setting is the star.
What to expect
The complex is small but photogenic, with golden statues and white domes standing above the tree line. Because it is up high and open on all sides, sunrise and sunset here are the reason to come.
Good to know
You need a tuk-tuk or car up the hill, and the last stretch is steep. Dress modestly and remove shoes at the shrines.
