Coconut Tree Hill is a small green headland at the eastern end of Mirissa, where a dense grove of coconut palms leans out over the ocean. The curving trunks against the blue sea have made it one of the most photographed and Instagrammed spots on the south coast.

Visiting

A short walk up from Mirissa beach brings you to the grove. Go early to beat both the heat and the crowds, and take care near the cliff edges. Please treat it gently, it is a much-loved, fragile spot.

Around Mirissa

Mirissa is the base for the south coast’s blue-whale watching trips and has a lively beach with seafood grills and sunset bars.

Getting there

Mirissa is on the southern coastal road, a short hop from Weligama; the hill is a walk from the main beach.
