Meemure is a small, isolated village set deep in the Knuckles range, reached by a long and bumpy mountain road. Surrounded by forest, rice terraces and towering peaks including Lakegala, it has become a favourite base for hikers and travellers seeking quiet. Life here still moves at a slow, rural pace.

Getting there

The drive in from Hunnasgiriya is long, winding and rough, so a capable vehicle or an arranged transfer helps. Expect the last stretch to take far longer than the distance suggests.

Things to do

Travellers come to walk forest trails, swim in cool streams and gaze up at the sheer face of Lakegala rock. Village based guides can lead hikes into the surrounding hills.

Staying overnight

Simple family run guesthouses and homestays let you experience village rhythm and home cooked meals. Nights are quiet and dark, so it is a good place to slow down and disconnect.
