Kandy After Dark: Bars and Live Music in the Hills
By Days of Iru and Opa
Kandy’s nightlife is relaxed and social rather than wild. Think a cold Lion beer with a view, live music in a hotel lounge, and a walk around the lake in the cool evening air.
Where the night goes
Rooftop and hotel bars around town are the main after-dark scene, some with live bands at weekends. It stays fairly early and easygoing compared with the coast.
By the lake
An evening walk around Kandy Lake, with the Temple of the Tooth lit up across the water, is the classic way to end a night here.
Good to know
Kandy is a sacred city, so things are more conservative than beach towns and wind down earlier. Poya (full moon) days are dry days with no alcohol served.
