Kandy in the Rain: The Hill Capital on a Grey Day

By Days of Iru and Opa

Kandy sits in a bowl of hills, so it catches a lot of weather, and rain gives the town a quiet, misty feel. The lake goes glassy, the temple roofs shine, and the whole place slows down.

What to expect

A wet day in Kandy is a good excuse to walk the lake under an umbrella, duck into the Temple of the Tooth, and warm up with tea. The surrounding hills disappear into cloud and reappear as the rain moves through.

Good to know

Kandy can get rain in most months, heaviest in the second half of the year. Keep a light rain layer handy and treat the grey light as good for photos of the lake and temple.
