Jungle Beach is a compact cove on the Rumassala hill near Unawatuna and Galle, reached by a path down through greenery. Its calm, clear water and quiet setting make it a favourite for a swim and a snorkel away from the busier main beaches. The forested backdrop gives it its name.

Getting down

A short but sometimes steep path leads through the trees to the sand, and there is a vehicle route part of the way too. Wear shoes with grip, as the trail can be uneven.

In the water

The bay is usually calm and good for gentle swimming, with some coral and fish to see when the water is clear. Conditions can vary with the season, so check before going far out.

Good to know

The cove is small and can fill up at peak times, so arrive earlier for space. Bring water and take your rubbish out, as facilities are limited.
