Galle Face Green: Colombo’s Seafront Promenade
By Days of Iru and Opa
Galle Face Green is a long strip of open lawn along the Colombo seafront, laid out in colonial times and now the city’s favourite place to unwind. At sunset it comes alive with families, kite-flyers and food vendors.
Street food
Stalls along the promenade sell classics like isso wade (prawn fritters), kottu and grilled corn. Eating here as the sun goes down is a Colombo essential.
The setting
The green runs beside the Indian Ocean, backed by historic hotels and modern towers. It is a fine place for an evening walk with the sea breeze.
Nearby
The Old Parliament, the Fort district and Pettah market are within walking distance for a wider city stroll.
