Ella Nights: Bars, Bonfires and Backpacker Buzz
By Days of Iru and Opa
After a day on the trails, tiny Ella turns into the most sociable town in the hills. Its single main strip is lined with bars and restaurants that fill with travellers every night.
The scene
Expect casual bars, live acoustic sets, rooftop hangouts and an easy, mingling backpacker crowd. It is lively but rarely rowdy.
After the hike
Most people roll in after Little Adam’s Peak, Ella Rock or the Nine Arches Bridge, so evenings are relaxed and early-ish, with everyone up for the next day’s adventures.
Tip
Nights get cool in the hills, so bring a layer. Poya (full moon) days are alcohol-free across the country.
