Elephant Rock, Arugam Bay: A Surf Point and Viewpoint
Elephant Rock is a rounded headland a short way south of Arugam Bay, so named because its shape, seen from the beach, resembles an elephant lowering its trunk to drink. It has a gentler surf break than the main point and a short scramble to the top rewards you with a wide coastal view.

The break here is friendlier for less-experienced surfers than Arugam Bay’s famous main point, and the climb over the rock gives a lovely outlook over the empty beaches and lagoons of the east coast.
