Dunhinda Falls: The Smoky Cascade Near Badulla

Dunhinda takes its name from the fine mist ("dun" means smoke) thrown up as it crashes into the pool below. It is one of the most scenic falls in the Uva hills, reached on a short but rough footpath.
The walk
A roughly one-kilometre trail from the car park winds along the valley to a viewing platform facing the falls. It has ups and downs and can be slippery, so wear proper shoes.
Best time
The falls are fullest and mistiest just after rain. Vendors and small shops line the trailhead in season.
Nearby
Badulla town, with its Muthiyangana temple, is a short drive away, and the road continues into the Uva tea country.
