Dalawella is a lovely stretch of beach just east of Unawatuna, known for a leaning coconut palm with a rope swing over the shallows. Protected in places by a reef, parts of the bay stay calm enough for swimming. It has become a well loved photo spot on the south coast.

The swing and the sand

The famous rope swing hangs from a palm at the water's edge and usually has a small queue. Beyond the photos, the wide golden beach is pleasant for a stroll or a lie down.

Swimming

A reef shelters part of the shore, creating calmer pools, but currents can be strong elsewhere. Ask locally about safe spots and take care with children.

Nearby

Dalawella sits close to Unawatuna, Wijaya beach and the Galle headland, so it is easy to combine several coves. Sunsets here are gentle and worth staying for.
