Bambarakanda Falls: Sri Lanka’s Highest Waterfall

Bambarakanda is Sri Lanka’s highest waterfall, plunging more than 260 metres down a forested rock face near Kalupahana, off the Haputale, Belihuloya road. It is at its most dramatic in the wet months.
The falls
A narrow ribbon of water falls in one long drop framed by pine forest. It shrinks to a trickle in the dry season, so time a visit for during or just after the rains for the full effect.
Getting there
A rough side road turns off the main highway; the last stretch is best in a tuk-tuk or sturdy vehicle. A short walk leads to the base viewpoint.
Nearby
It pairs well with Ohiya, the Horton Plains entrance, and the tea towns of Haputale and Belihuloya.
