Badulla: Gateway to the Uva Hills
By Days of Iru and Opa
Badulla is one of the oldest towns in the country and the capital of Uva Province, ringed by tea-covered hills. It is the end of the scenic hill-country railway and a base for exploring the eastern highlands.
Muthiyangana Temple
The Muthiyangana Raja Maha Vihara in the centre is an ancient and revered Buddhist temple, one of the town’s main sights.
Waterfalls
Dunhinda Falls, one of the island’s most beautiful, is a short drive away, and the surrounding hills hide several more cascades.
The railway
Badulla is the final station on the famous line up from Kandy and Ella, a slow, spectacular way to arrive.
