Ahangama, between Galle and Weligama, has quietly become one of the south coast’s most stylish stretches, with a run of reef and beach breaks and a cluster of cafes and guesthouses.
The surf
A string of breaks along the coast suits everyone from improvers to experienced surfers, with beginner-friendly options nearby at Weligama. The south-coast season runs roughly November to April.
Stilt fishermen
The coast around Ahangama and Koggala is where you may see traditional stilt fishermen perched over the water. Agree any photo fee first, as it is now largely a paid attraction.
The scene
Third-wave coffee, yoga and long lazy beach days define the vibe. It is calmer than the bigger resort towns.
